Discover Vila Nova de Gaia and Monsanto

Vila Nova de Gaia, Porto

A perfect trip to experience in the invincible city of Porto — its history, the kindness of the Portuguese people, the mild climate all year round, the popular festivities (the biggest one being São João), the historical monuments, and the famous Port Wine Cellars.

Starting from Casa dos Sequeiras Port Wine Cellars and Casa dos Sequeiras Port Rosé down to the banks of the Douro River, you will find Vila Nova de Gaia, offering the most beautiful views of Porto city. In the wine cellars, you can enjoy stories, tastings, guided tours, live Fado, Rabelo boat trips along the Douro River, visits to the Douro Valley, and excellent restaurants serving traditional recipes from Northern Portugal.

Monsanto, Castelo Branco

Monsanto is one of the 12 Historical Villages of Portugal and, in 2021, served as the filming location for part of the House of the Dragon series, in which the owner of Casa dos Sequeiras took part — a prequel to Game of Thrones. It is a village “carved into the granite backbone of central Portugal, with medieval houses nestled under colossal boulders, while narrow alleys wind past the Chapel of São Pedro de Vir-a-Corça and the Romanesque Church of Santa Maria, and scattered goats graze near crumbling stairways.” (Forbes magazine), which ranked Monsanto 21st among the 50 most beautiful villages in the world.

Near Casa dos Sequeiras, you can visit the historical village, walk up to the Roman Castle, enjoy the mountain for single trekking, quad biking, and motocross. You can also enjoy a thermal holiday at Termas de Monfortinho (20 km away), take a swim and join the BOOM festival at the Idanha-a-Nova dam, ride a jet ski, dive into the refreshing waters of the natural pool of Penha Garcia, or go climbing in the Penha Garcia mountains. Around the area, you can taste typical regional game dishes in several local restaurants.
